Using your data when you register for an NPD

Purpose and lawful basis for processing

Our purpose for processing this information is so we can fund professional development courses. The National professional development (NPD) courses are for teachers and leaders who want to develop skills, progress their career and improve outcome school outcomes.

The lawful basis we rely on for this processing of your personal data is public task, under article 6(1)(e) of the UK GDPR.

Data we collect

DfE collects and uses the following personal information:

  • contact information – name, phone number, email address, date of birth
  • TRN
  • your National Insurance number
  • where you work and what your role is

What we do with your data

When processing NPD registrations, we:

  • send your registration details to NPD providers
  • validate your TRN
  • work out any funding you're eligible for
  • get in touch with you and NPD providers about your NPD registration
  • determine and store the NPD outcomes
  • compare your data to other data we hold
  • get in touch if there's a security issue concerning your data

We use your data to run and improve our services. We may contact you about taking part in user research and look at any feedback you share - for example, through website surveys.

Who we share your data with

When you register for an NPD you're asked to choose an NPD provider. We share your data with your chosen provider. We have a data sharing agreement with NPD providers so they can only use your data to:

  • process NPD registrations and applications, which may include contacting you
  • get statistics for internal use
  • get in touch with you if there's a security issue concerning your data
